Astrology

During thousands of years, ancient civilizations around the world watched the heavenly bodies. Most of them were fixed in the sky, but a few of them would move and change their position during the day, the months, the years and centuries. In many cases, this apparent movement could be correlated to events happening on Earth. These observations were registered in clay tablets initially, later in papyrus and stone monuments, in illuminated medieval books, printed books and nowadays in computers and apps in your mobile phone. Since then, these observations and their interpretations formed a body of knowledge called Astrology.

The Origins of Astrology

Cuneiform tablet: commentary on Enuma Anu Enlil, tablet 5 ca. late 1st millennium B.C Metropolitan Museum of Art

Enuma Anu Enlil is one of the most important astrological and divinatory texts of the ancient world. Preserved on approximately seventy clay tablets dating primarily to the Old Babylonian period of the second millennium BCE, this remarkable Mesopotamian compilation provides a unique window into the astronomical observations, religious beliefs, and predictive practices of early civilizations.

The tablets contain an extensive collection of celestial omens, recording the meanings attributed to phenomena such as lunar and solar eclipses, planetary movements, unusual weather patterns, and other events observed in the heavens. For the Mesopotamians, these occurrences were not considered random; they were viewed as messages from the gods, revealing information about the future of rulers, kingdoms, and society as a whole.

Scholars, diviners, and astrologers consulted the Enuma Anu Enlil to interpret these signs and to advise kings and political leaders on matters of governance, warfare, agriculture, and public welfare. As one of the earliest known systematic works of astrology, it laid the foundations for many of the astrological traditions that would later develop throughout the ancient Near East and the Mediterranean world.

Today, the Enuma Anu Enlil stands as a testament to humanity's enduring fascination with the sky and its search for meaning in the movements of the celestial bodies.

Traditional Medical Astrology

Traditional medical astrology is a branch of astrology that focuses on the correlation between celestial bodies and health conditions. It considers the influence of planetary positions, zodiac signs, and their aspects on the human body. By examining an individual's birth chart, traditional medical astrologers seek to identify potential health vulnerabilities and imbalances. This ancient practice aims to provide insights into preventive measures, lifestyle recommendations, and therapeutic approaches to promote well-being and restore balance.

“The soul of the newly born baby is marked for life by the pattern of the stars at the moment it comes into the world, unconsciously remembers it, and remains sensitive to the return of configurations of a similar kind.”
